The East Africa Education Foundation (Stichting Onderwijs Oost-Afrika) was established and notarised in Amsterdam in August 2010. In July 2011, the foundation received the status of a Public Benefit Organisation (ANBI), retroactively, which exempts donations from taxes.
Contributions made in the Netherlands are sent directly to the schools. Both the board members and local intermediaries who oversee the appropriate use of funds work completely on a voluntary basis.
The foundation’s goal is to provide underprivileged children in the region with access to education, enabling them to develop the skills needed to support themselves. This is achieved by offering financial and material support to educational institutions through fundraising efforts in the Netherlands and beyond.
The foundation is run by volunteers and operates on a non-profit basis. The board consists of Djûke Poppinga (Chair), Marjan van der Horst (Secretary), Nadim Elhelw (Treasurer), Elseline Tuinier, Mara Treijtel and Rianne Tamis (Members).
